In 2019, we are celebrating the 500th anniversary of Leonardo’s death. A varied programme of events is taking place throughout Italy, in honour of the man now regarded as one of the world’s greatest geniuses.
There are many opportunities to enjoy his endless creativity, and also to explore the different parts of the country that he visited. One such place is Tuscany, which is staging a programme of events entitled “Leonardo in Toscana” https://www.visittuscany.com/it/leonardointoscana.
In Lombardy the “Vieni a vedere la Lombardia di Leonardo dall’alto (Come and see Leonardo’s Lombardy from above)” event runs from May to December 2019. In Milan, the Belvedere at Palazzo Lombardia is opening at special times to allow visitors a bird’s eye view of the main sights associated with Leonardo, combined with explanatory panels that detail his work and his various travels through Lombardy. https://www.in-lombardia.it/it/evento/la-lombardia-di-leonardo-dallalto.
In Piedmont a fascinating exhibition entitled “Leonardo da Vinci. Disegnare il futuro (Leonardo da Vinci. Drawing the Future) ” can be seen until July 14 at the Royal Museums of Turin. https://www.museireali.beniculturali.it/events/leonardo-da-vinci-disegnare-il-futuro/ Among the most famous works on display are his “Self-portrait” and the “Code on the Flight of Birds”. The stylish “Leonardo” line of merchandise created by Arbos is on sale at the exhibition bookshop.
