The Religious Works of the Diocese of Ravenna manage the monuments declared by Unesco as a “patrimony of humanity”. These include the Basilica of San Vitale, the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, the Basilica of Sant’Apollinare in Classe, the Baptistery, the Archdiocesan Museum and the Chapel of Sant’Andrea.
A historical heritage of great value that reminds us that Ravenna was a capital city three times over the centuries: first of the Western Roman Empire, then of the Kingdom of the Ostrogoths and then the Byzantine Exarchate of Italy.
The city and its monuments are a universal witness to the highest level ever achieved in the mosaic art. Of a beauty that is breathtaking to each visitor, the brilliance and magnificence of these mosaics cannot be reproduced on any material or object.
Therefore, Arbos wanted to highlight the details by offering fragments capable of arousing curiosity and provoking a desire for a direct experience or able to keep the emotions experienced alive. Arbos did this through the deliberate contrast between the rough surface of the straw paper and the polychrome prints on glossy paper.
