About us

At Arbos, our commitment to sustainable stationery is a deeply rooted value that supports our work and fuels our creativity. For nearly 40 years, we have been creating original notebooks and stationery items that respect the planet we live on.

Since 1988, Arbos has been crafting innovative and eco-friendly stationery using recycled paper and other sustainable materials. Our notebooks and journals – including our best-selling Quaderni collection – are available in bookstores and stationery shops through our online store. You can also find our products in all Feltrinelli bookstores across Italy.
In addition to our collections, we design custom merchandise for companies, museums, and private labels for top brands such as Emporio Armani and Vivi Verde Coop.

Our products are more than just notebooks: they are stories that speak to people about beauty and sustainability.

Our Story

Arbos was founded in 1988 by our visionary founder, Sergio Paolin, together with his partner Oriella Guarise. Their idea was simple yet groundbreaking: to offer beautiful and meticulously crafted stationery and desk accessories made from recycled materials.
Sergio knew paper like the back of his hand: he worked for 15 years at the Favini Paper Mill, starting from the very bottom. “The plant manager personally accompanied me on a tour of the departments. It was my first day on the job, in March 1971. After the tour, he took me to the basement, where trucks of kaolin were still being unloaded by hand. He handed me a shovel and pointed to the trailer to unload! By the end of my shift, I went home looking like a sardine coated in white flour.”

Arbos made its debut at the Chibicart trade show in Milan in January 1989 with a catalog of timeless, classic designs crafted exclusively from recycled paper – a highly innovative choice at the time. Imagine that back then, some people even called us to ask if recycled paper was hazardous to their health! It required a significant effort to educate the public, and we are proud to have contributed over the years to raising awareness about sustainable products.

Today, Arbos offers its notebook and journal collections to a wide audience through our online shop, as well as bookstores and stationery shops, especially those in the LaFeltrinelli network.
Finally, we specialize in creating custom projects for businesses of all sizes. Our recycled-material products are available for merchandising, private labels, and corporate gifts, making sustainability both practical and stylish.

Philosophy

In recent years, many businesses have begun calling themselves sustainable. We, on the other hand, don’t just call ourselves sustainable—we truly are. Stoically, stubbornly, and sometimes with the passion of missionaries, we have operated sustainably since our founding. Back then, ecology was a niche concept, and the term “recycled paper” often alarmed shopkeepers.

Arbos is proud to be a B Corp-certified company, the most prestigious international certification for social responsibility. Simply put, a B Corp like us is a company that values society and the environment as much as economic results.

Our name and logo reflect who we are. Arbos comes from the Latin word arbor, meaning tree. From the very beginning, all our products have carried the message: “No tree was cut down to make this notebook from 100% recycled paper.”
The leaf in our logo is a real leaf from a Durmast oak, collected by Sergio along the Cecina River during a vacation in Tuscany. It’s still preserved here at Arbos!

We believe sustainability requires coherence, even if it means taking the road less traveled. Our goal is to make Arbos a force for positive change and improvement in society.

Our philosophy is built on the principles we call the 3 R’s:

Respect for People

We believe that fair profit must always go hand in hand with recognizing workers’ rights and embracing social responsibility. Arbos guarantees products made in Italy, respecting these values.

Respect for the Environment

We were among the first to create products from recycled and eco-friendly materials. In 2007, we were recognized as “Pioneers” with a prestigious award from COMIECO, under the patronage of the Presidency of the Republic and the Ministry of the Environment.

Research into Beauty

Beauty is a calling that inspires and energizes us. Designing each new Arbos collection brings us joy, especially when collaborating with designers and artists who understand that our notebooks are more than just stationery—they are outlets for expression.
Our notebooks are everyday objects transformed into art, keepers of memories and words, telling stories about their owners.
Our notebooks are truly beautiful! Entirely Made in Italy, they are high-quality, functional, and innovative. They embody the artisan’s intelligence, a skill born from experience and knowledge, making Arbos products unique and special.

“Go where nature leads.”

Materials

At Arbos we believe that research and experimentation are fundamental when it comes to recycling. For this reason, for almost 40 years we have been exploring the potential of materials often considered “waste”, transforming them into elegant and functional stationery products. Every notebook, notebook or article we produce brings with it a story of recovery, value and beauty. Every time you pick up one of our products, you will have tangible proof that apparently simple materials can become useful and precious tools.

Discover the materials that make Arbos products unique.

100% Recycled Paper:Sourced from certified European production, this is the foundation of our products.

It’s a space where thoughts are nurtured and preserved over time.

The territory

The Arbos headquarters is located in Solagna, in Valbrenta area near Vicenza. This area has been tied to the world of paper since the 1800s, thanks to the historic Remondini family of printers. For us, Solagna is not just a registered office, a warehouse, or a workplace. It’s a deliberate choice, and we want to share its story because it says a lot about who we are.

When Arbos needed to expand, we learned that an architect from Valbrenta was working on revitalizing an artisanal area in the village of Solagna. The land where we are now was once a landfill for inert waste. There were even two lime kilns—one pit kiln and one elevated kiln. The reclamation and redevelopment project was a major undertaking, but, as you might have guessed, we’re not easily discouraged. In fact, we can say we enjoy challenges.

Today, our headquarters is in a unique and evocative location, surrounded by nature. When we open the office windows at Arbos, the view stretches to the Brenta River and reaches the village of Solagna, where the chimney of one of the two kilns, restored by Arbos, stands tall, challenging the church bell tower and creating a fascinating contrast between history and landscape.
